Wines We Love for Spring
Changing the wine we drink with the seasons is an opportunity to experience a wider range of varietals and pairings. As the weather warms our taste buds start to crave wines that are fresh and clean. It’s time to start picking out wine for its lightness and simplicity.
Here are some of our favorite light and bright varietals for spring:
Varietals
Falanghina/Biancolella
Falanghina and Biancolella are Italian grape varieties used in the production of blended and varietal white wines in Campania. The flavor profile is robust in aromatics of green apple and apricots with the flavor of stone fruit and a balance of mineral. Medium bodied that has the essence of the sea.
Primitivo
Primitivo is a Zinfandel varietal and the third most popular varietal planted in the southern region of Italy. Its jammy, balanced tannins showcase the old world style of being big with a higher alcohol content with the subtle sweet finish.
Lambrusco di Sorbara
This is the lightest of any Lambrusco variety. These sparkling red wines are dry with a balance of acidity with the aromatics of raspberries and violets. The effervescence gives a refreshing feeling, but has the weight to fulfill the essence of spring is here.
